When Did You Conceive? Conception Date Calculator
When did you conceive?
Working backward from your due date or last menstrual period to estimate when conception occurred is a common question — whether for medical, legal, personal, or simply curious reasons. Conception typically occurs during the fertile window: the 5–6 days ending on ovulation day, which falls approximately 14 days before the next period for a standard 28-day cycle. The relationship between LMP, ovulation, and due date follows a predictable biological timeline. Ovulation occurs approximately on day 14 of a 28-day cycle (cycle length − 14 days for variable cycles). Sperm can survive in the fallopian tubes for up to 5 days, and an egg is viable for 12–24 hours after ovulation. This creates the 5–6 day fertile window during which conception can occur. Working backward from a due date: conception occurred approximately 266 days before the due date (280 days from LMP minus the 14 days from LMP to ovulation). This gives an estimated conception date, with a realistic window of ±5 days accounting for variation in ovulation timing and sperm survival. This calculator works both forward (LMP → conception date estimate) and backward (due date → conception date estimate), and provides the fertile window range rather than a single date — because pinpointing the exact moment of conception with certainty is biologically impossible from dates alone.

- →Working backward from a due date to find the likely conception window
- →Understanding which partner was present during the conception window
- →Satisfying curiosity about the timing of conception
- →Providing approximate conception timing information for medical records
Emma's due date is June 15. Working backward: conception date estimate = June 15 − 266 days = September 23 (±5 days). Fertile window: September 18–24. Her LMP was approximately September 9 (266 + 14 = 280 days before due date). The calculator displays the full conception window rather than a single date, since conception can occur anywhere in the 5-6 day fertile period.

About This Calculator
This pregnancy conception calculator estimates the likely date of conception from either an estimated due date (EDD) or the first day of the last menstrual period (LMP), adjusted for non-standard cycle lengths. Results update in real time as you change any input. Two modes are supported: working forward from LMP (the clinical standard) or backward from a due date provided by a healthcare provider. The estimate range shows the ±5 day window around the most likely conception date.
The Overview tab shows a fertility area chart plotting per-cycle conception probability across all days of the menstrual cycle, with a reference line at the estimated ovulation day. The Probability tab renders a bar chart of the 7-day fertile window using per-day conception probabilities from Wilcox et al. (1995), colour-coded by fertility level (peak/high/low), with detailed day-by-day cards. The Timeline tab lists 10 key milestones from LMP through due date with colour-coded dots and days remaining, plus a pregnancy progress area chart when the pregnancy is active.
A certainty score (0–100) reflects the statistical reliability of the estimate based on cycle length deviation from the 28-day average and input mode. Dynamic accent colours shift with score: emerald (high certainty, ≥80), indigo (good estimate, ≥65), amber (approximate, ≥45), red (low certainty). Important: this calculator provides statistical estimates only, not legal or medical determinations. Calendar-based conception dating cannot establish paternity — only DNA testing provides legal certainty.
